It was supposed to be over…

Returning from Haven 18 was supposed to be the end. But nothing is ever easy—and in a world full of zombies, finding the missing is next to impossible. There are breadcrumbs. Tiny clues. But what are a few tiny clues in a world of the dead?

Nurrin is desperate to find her brother, but that will mean trusting Finn O’Malley. A man shrouded in secrets, who kills as easily as breathing. And the more she learns about him, the more questions she has. But she has learned one thing—the zombies are changing. Adapting. And this time, the Haven walls won’t keep them out.
I think this book is more correctly placed on the Adult category. The nature of the love scenes is for Adult books. Or so I think.

Ever since I watched Dawn of the Dead, I’ve been obsessed with everything zombie. My favorite zombie movie is I Am Legend, my fave game is Left4Dead2 and my fave TV show is The Walking Dead. So you might have a pretty clear idea on how I really like zombie entertainment. Zombies as we know, eats flesh and when you get bitten you’ll turn into one.

I really disliked the i-don’t-answer-questions-from-Nurrin attitude of Finn. I understand why he couldn’t – wouldn’t answer some of her questions but some of it is crucial for the knowledge of the readers as well. I guess in the long run, it’ll uncover itself. I don’t know Finn’s exact age but I’m guessing he’s around mid-30s? I think it was mentioned that he was a teen when the world ended and add in 20 years after – which was the year the book started- so I concluded that he is way too old for Nurrin. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s like around 15 years of age difference. I think, he’s as old as her brother. Not to mention, the way he treats her is bordering cruel. Finn will definitely not make my Book Boyfriend List.

The beginning of the novel was a bit confusing even though I’ve read the 1st book recently. It should’ve included a brief introduction on what happened with the 1st book. Also, it made it difficult to get used to the term ‘Walkers’ because we all know that it’s another term for zombies. From the first to the second, it wasn’t explained what were the terms The Order, Firsts, First Day, Third Day etc means.

The political structure of the new world got me pretty intrigued. It was confusing at first but gradually became clear. I honestly think that even after the Infects overtook most of the world, the politicians will still rise and reestablish the hierarchy in the society (what’s left of it anyway). The mysteries kept on coming. Some questions have been answered but were replaced by a new set of queries that keeps the story interesting. Dustin is one of the characters I wish I could explore more. He was a loyal best friend to Nurrin. I really liked him as a lover to her too. The ending was something I didn’t anticipate. It was both saddening and exciting. I’m afraid to continue on what might happen to them but at the same time excited to see what will take place next.

THE HORDE WITHOUT END continues the story of Nurrin and Finn’s journey to find Collin and to discover a way to survive a world where the zombies are adapting. The ending? Unexpectedly shocking.

Terms (from what I understand)
Havens – Walled fortresses of humans to keep infects out.
Walkers – People who guards the Havens from infects and also screens newcomers.
ERI-Milan – The cure for a disease created by Sylvia that mutated into a virus.

The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn't know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried. The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden invites readers to a dark paranormal world...

Vampires exist. So do werewolves. The creatures that you fear in the darkness? They’re all real. And the baddest of the paranormals…those who love to hurt humans…they’re sent to Purgatory, the only paranormal prison in the U.S.

His job is to stop the monsters.

Deadly forces are at work within Purgatory. The monsters are joining together—and their plans have to be stopped. FBI Agent Shane August, a very powerful vampire with a dark past, is sent into the prison on an undercover assignment. His job is to infiltrate the vampire clan, by any means necessary.

She wants to help the prisoners.

Dr. Olivia Maddox wants to find out just why certain paranormals go bad. What pushes some vampires over the edge? Why do some werewolves turn so savage? If she can understand the monsters, then Olivia thinks she can help them. When she gets permission to enter Purgatory, Olivia believes she is being given the research opportunity of a lifetime.

Olivia doesn't realize that she’s walking straight into hell.

To survive, they have to rely on each other.

When the prisoners break loose, there is only one person—one vampire—who can protect her, but as Olivia and Shane fight the enemies that surround them, a dark and dangerous passion stirs to life between the doctor and the vamp. Shane realizes that Olivia is a woman carrying secrets—powerful, sinful secrets. Secrets that a man would kill to possess.

And Olivia realizes that—sometimes—you can’t control the beast inside of you. No matter how hard you try. Some passions can push you to the very limits of your control…and the growing lust that she feels for her vampire…it’s sending her racing right into a deadly storm of desire.

Welcome to Purgatory…a place that’s a real hell on earth…

*NOTE: Intended readers are only 18+ due to steaming hot scenes and violence

If wolves have an alpha, then Shane August is the vampire version.
Stronger than the rest, Shane has lived for a thousand years and is now recruited by the Paranormal Unit in Seattle to monitor the paranormal prison, Purgatory. He was to report from the inside out by posing as a prisoner but what he does not expect is the Hot Doc that could possibly ruin his cover or seep through his skin and into his heart.

Olivia, a grad student currently taking her PhD in criminal psychology, wanted to learn more about the criminal mind: what makes them do what they did and who they currently are. And yet, she herself, in the depths of her subconscious, is hiding something; something dark and terrifying.

Personally, vampires held no appeal, especially those of the Edward Cullen kind.
Right until Shane became known to me.
He is just so friggin' hot!
He can bite me anytime. Lol. Kidding
This book has been sizzling from the start, in the middle right until the end.
So be sure to be in close proximity with a fan.
Or read this in an airconditioned room.

Marked by the Vampire is a must-read for those looking for more than the usual glittering, brooding vampires, those in favor of more action with a really generous siding of romance and a whole lot of paranormals to boot.

And with a vampire like Shane, who knows..
You just might want to cross over to the dark side

Marked by the Vampire is the second book in the series Purgatory.
This can be read as a stand-alone novella to the first one and the third book.
"I like the way you smell" he told her, and she felt the slight movement of his mouth against her ear as he whispered "I didn't expect to find something so sweet on my way to hell."

Book Review: Before You by Amber Hart

Some say love is deadly. Some say love is beautiful. I say it is both.

Faith Watters spent her junior year traveling the world, studying in exquisite places, before returning to Oviedo High School. From the outside her life is picture-perfect. Captain of the dance team. Popular. Happy. Too bad it’s all a lie.

It will haunt me. It will claim me. It will shatter me. And I don't care.

Eighteen-year-old Diego Alvarez hates his new life in the States, but staying in Cuba is not an option. Covered in tattoos and scars, Diego doesn't stand a chance of fitting in. Nor does he want to. His only concern is staying hidden from his past—a past, which if it were to surface, would cost him everything. Including his life.

At Oviedo High School, it seems that Faith Watters and Diego Alvarez do not belong together. But fate is as tricky as it is lovely. Freedom with no restraint is what they long for. What they get is something different entirely.

Love—it will ruin you and save you, both.
She wants to not let her past rule her.
And he wants to forget it but couldn't.

Will they let these demons of their past consume them..
Or would be able to fight through these, together?

Diego and Faith may believe that they belong to two different worlds when in reality, their worlds are very similar with one another.
Both worlds cast judgement on the other.
But the story doesn't entirely focus on that aspect.
It focuses on how these two people, despite their worlds, met and were brought together.
This story tells of how these two were able to break the walls that kept them apart.

Personally, the book is a good enough read and yet, for me, nothing makes it stand out from the other books with similar plots.
Its saving grace, however, was the the ending.
The author has shocked me (a little) with the second chapter to the last. I thought she was going to break out from the norm as is commonly seen in stories like this but that wasn't the case.
And I can honestly say that I am not disappointed.

Before You is a story on accepting oneself; your flaws, the decisions you've made and the things you've done. It is only through this that you'd be able to open yourself to others, be able to connect with them by being who you truly are.
"There are moments in life set apart from the rest. The before this moment, and the after this moment. Diego is one of those moments for me."

"She is the key that unlocked my darkness. She poured in millions and millions of kilowatts of sunshine."

Fresh off the heels of a devastating breakup, Riley Benson is a mess. But with her ingenious plan to become a ball-busting heartbreaker herself, she’s pretty sure she’ll survive. After all, what better way is there to get revenge than to move on?

Riley’s determined to become the perfect bachelorette—she’s going to drink like a bro, belch like a beast and swear so much that she’ll make even the most seasoned sailors blush. After all, those are the qualities that every guy’s secretly looking for…. aren’t they?

Max Fletcher is in love with the girl who gave him chicken pox and his first broken leg. When his best friend seems to finally be out of the picture, he can’t help but want to keep Riley all to himself. And, after coaching her with the very best of the very worst love advice, it seems as if he might actually get what he's wanted after all those years. But just as the two come to the realization that they're actually kind of perfect for each other, along comes a secret that threatens to tear them apart.

I try to keep an open mind while reading this book. There were a lot of bad reviews about it and I tried to not let it color my view and overall experience with the book.

Although honestly, I tried to quit reading it.

BUT WAIT!
Hear me out first.
There are indeed certain instances in the book where you would just like to throw it to the window or the 50th floor but this is my advice to you.

FINISH THIS BOOK.

If you need to rest after reading the characters b*tch about their lives, do so.
Then continue reading.
Even when you feel like this.
You just have to
And that's what I did.

Overall, Since Forever Ago is a light, comical, new adult novel dealing with how a twenty-something guy and girl deals with life and relationships. This book focused on the latter.

In order for the love of his life, his best friend, to be his, Max Fletcher has done the unthinkable.
He has given advice to his best girl, Riley Benson. And she will do those because, after all, Max is her bestfriend.
After all, Riley’s determined to become the perfect bachelorette—she’s going to drink like a bro, belch like a beast and swear so much that she’ll make even the most seasoned sailors blush. After all, those are the qualities that every guy’s secretly looking for…. aren’t they?
I honestly have no favorite character. What I love about it are the interactions between characters. The way they behave towards each other made me laugh a few times, especially those between Max and Riley.

Their friendship evolved. There were times that it was challenged but in the end, it turned to something wonderful.

And yet, the thing I don't like about the book is how the characters always whine. At the age of 21, I think girls and boys have matured enough to not always whine about anything and everything. Because, even when you have problems, you just have to suck it up and be able to overcome it. In that way, you mature.

If you get past the whining, CONGRATULATIONS! Since Forever Ago is a light read that may make you notice that the one you're waiting for, has been there for you all along.

P.S. ugh, the author is just so...so...beautiful.
I can't help but admire her. She looks like Karmin

Book Review: Perfect Opposite by Zoya Tessi!

Their wishes were simple and modest. Fate had other things in store though, and she can be a real bitch sometimes.

- All he wanted was to get the job done and somehow to endure those long months playing nanny to a spoiled little rich girl. Without strangling her with his bare hands in the process. Well, it is going to be much easier said than done.

- All she wanted was to escape the past and live like any other nineteen-year-old girl. Her plan definitely didn’t include the arrogant, tattooed savage, with his awful mohawk hair and lack of social graces, whose only mission was to stick real close and mess up her life.

But, people aren't always what they seem to be, are they?
“Normality. It was all I’ve ever asked for.”

Sasha Navarova changed her name to Sasha Meyers in order to escape her father and have a shot to a normal life after a tragic past but her established life in college came crashing down when her father gives her no choice.
Aleksey
In order to keep her boss’s daughter safe, Aleksey, tall and beautiful but brooding right hand man of Nikolai (A Mafia God) becomes a babysitter to an Art History college student.

Sasha and Alex became close when they are forced to stay together 24/7 and to share their past along the way. Even with the never ending banter between them, there was undeniable sexual tension in the air. But what happens when babysitting time is up? What will Nikolai do? Will they be able to go back to their lives before they met?

Well, reading this was a very nice surprise. I thought this was going to be one of those high school love story with a Goth outcast and a popular spoiled girl but BAM! It was a spy/assassin novel that you don’t want to miss. The first few chapters were a bit slow but after the first half, all things started to blow up. The plot twist was unpredictable. I also loved the story line.  The ending was amazing.

I think it could've worked better if it was a New Adult novel since the characters were past their high school days. The sexual tension is also there but since it's a YA it can get frustrating. And I would love to read about what happened to Mike, Beth and Nikolai. I would also love to know the background of Alex. Maybe a sequel? Pretty please?

For readers looking for normality then this book isn't for you because there is anything but with the lives of the characters of PERFECT OPPOSITE.
A teenager in an adult's body. A rebel in the guise of an ordinary citizen. A lady with very unladylike language. A dreamer with a rational mind. A woman born into the wrong era, she still believes that chivalry's a feat to define the perfect man.

Zoya spent years doing volunteering work all across Europe, from cleaning school basements in Northern Russia to excavating Stone Age artifacts in Euskadi (the Basque country) and renovating castles from the middle ages in Southern France. She always dreamed of working with 'Doctors without borders' somewhere out in Africa, but ended up doing an 'ordinary job' in one of the smaller European countries.

Her greatest passion is devouring each and every book that comes within her reach.
