Truth & Lies Series
Aged out of the system and battle worn from unsuccessful foster
care, four women on the cusp of adulthood find passion and their paths in life
through the help of an anonymous fairy godmother type who calls herself the
Benefactrix.
Book One: Truth Kills
A
healing and emotionally fragile girl unknowing falls for the nephew of the man
who killed her family.
College freshmen, Phoebe's new lover is sexy, creative and willing
to let her act out all her dirty fantasies.
Unfortunately, Keith's not telling her the truth about who he really is
and the secret past that binds them together. When his Uncle breaks out of
prison to search for the "girl who got away," Keith risks losing the
best thing in his life by admitting to Phoebe that his Uncle killed her
parents.
Phoebe
Jones lost her family during a home invasion when she was only thirteen. She's
the only one of the four girls who remembers a loving family. The Benefactrix
has given her a full boat scholarship to the local college, where Phoebe meets
a graduate student who wants to do a story about her family. But Keith Parker
isn't without his own demons. His Uncle, now on death row, was one of the men
who broke into Phoebe's house eight years ago. What started out as a project
for understanding and healing is complicated when Phoebe & Keith act on the
explosive desire between them.
Phoebe
craves to be in control sexually and Keith is more than willing to let her have
her way with him. What started out as a hot fling rapidly becomes something
deeper. Keith knows he'll lose her if he reveals who he really is, but the lie
has taken on a life of its own and threatens to destroy not only their
relationship but Phoebe's fragile self confidence and freshly won self esteem.
If Phoebe Jones could
have skipped her high school graduation ceremony, she would have. But she promised her three best friends, that
she wouldn't flake at the last minute.
After all, they were the only family each other had.
While she listened to the Valedictorian drone on about
social responsibility and the environment, Phoebe let her guard down and
allowed a forbidden fantasy to come forth.
Looking out of the corner of her eyes, she found a family on the
sidelines. Phoebe pretended that the
blurry couple was her mother and father watching proudly, sneaking pictures of
her in her cap and gown.
When an unexpected tear leaked out, her breath shuddered
out of her in a ragged sob. She was too
old for this shit. Blinking, Phoebe
turned and proved to her aching heart that they were strangers. Her own parents were dead. Gone for eight years. Murdered.
Sacrificing themselves so she could escape. Phoebe shook her head violently.
No. She would not revisit that night. Not here.
Not now. Not ever again.
"You okay?" Kelly, her roommate from the group
home, whispered. Kelly had been raised
by her grandmother until she was ten. Then dementia hit and Grannie burnt the
house down with them in it. The fire
fighters had only been able to save Kelly.
Phoebe didn't trust herself to speak, but she
nodded. Kelly gripped her hand and
Phoebe clung to it like a life line. Kelly
didn't let go, and thank God for that.
Phoebe looked around, desperate to find a friendly face in the
crowd. She spotted the matron and two of
the day staff. The other girls from the
dormitory style home were scattered around.
Phoebe caught a glimpse of them here and there. They weren't close. Most of the girls were came and went so fast,
forging friendships were tough and most of the time weren't worth the
effort. Not when she had Kelly, Larissa,
and Maryann.
Craning her neck, she caught Maryann's eye from several
rows behind them. Maryanne’s family
cooked meth. The state took her away
when she was ten and her parents never showed an interest in taking her back,
which was just as well because they were in and out of jail most of the time. Maryann waved and then mimicked taking a huge
drink from an imaginary glass.
I hear ya, sister.
