Blog Tour: Quanta Reset by Lola Dodge

Quanta Reset (The Shadow Ravens #3)
Genre: YA
Release Date: September 27th 2016
Ink Monster

Quanta has escaped her laboratory prison, but that’s where the good news ends.

Life at the Shadow Ravens’ compound is a disaster. She’s drowning in visions of the dark pasts and darker futures of her fellow Ravens and is plagued by her own panic-inducing memories, but Lady Eva still expects her to “train” and “participate in missions.” Plus, the food tastes like burnt plastic.

The only bright spot is her genetic pairing to the brilliant Altair Orpheus. As their relationship grows, she’s positive that chemicals aren’t the only things drawing them together—although chemistry is definitely involved.

While they test the limits of her game-changing new ability to reset time, word arrives from Eva’s agents: Doctor Nagi is still experimenting with her DNA. If he succeeds in duplicating her power…

Forget the Shadow Ravens. The whole world is toast.

Quanta, being classified as a Red Helix, has powers that go beyond anyone's imagination. Her ability to see back and through time has been coveted by the corrupt government, Seligo, and could possibly be one of the reasons that the Shadow Ravens want her returned. The only person she trust herself with is Altair Orpheus. Will they be able to beat the odds, or will time run out for them to do a reset?

The setting of the story is interesting. The caste system based on skills is a common theme for dystopian, but what made it quite unique is the genetic pairing with unstable Red Helixes. Pairing involves genetic modification, helping the Red Helix control her powers, and also the unconscious desire to always keep them safe. That is what linked both Altair and Quanta closer.

Honestly, there were some details missing such as the history behind the helixes, the division between the Seligo and the Shadow Ravens as well as the history among several key characters from both sides. Should these things be provided, the book would have been a more enjoyable read.

17-year-old Hannah is losing her grip on reality, which is affecting not only her but her friends and family too. She wrecked the car when bugs crawled over her hands, but were the creepy things even real? Now someone is moving Hannah’s possessions around in her room, or is she imagining that also? Why does she feel like she isn’t in control of her own brain anymore? Hannah is terrified she’s headed for a horrible life in and out of the mental institution, just like her dad.
When her friends bail, Hannah is left floundering. Her boyfriend, Manny, doesn’t believe her wild stories, and new girl Chelsea is practically replacing her at school. Only artsy outsider and self-proclaimed occult expert, Plug, agrees to help Hannah discover the truth, but even he can't help Hannah reclaim her mind from whatever is taking over. She'll have to do that on her own, especially if she wants to save her friends, her mom, and herself.
Hannah has experienced one thing that drastically changes her life forever. As a result, she has lost the life she knows; her friends, her boyfriend and is now considered an outcast in her school. The only saving grace to Hannah's life is her newfound friendship with the campus "oddballs". Would she be able to go past the pain and loss, or would she succumb to it?

This book shows the complexity of human behavior. It showed how one struggles with loss, with the unexplainable and with hope. Put into mind as well that these things are experienced by a teenager, whose emotional intelligence is still developing, chaos would definitely describe what she is feeling. Unlocked shows how one accepts whoever they are and letting the people who truly understand them enter their lives.

Nobody ever said life was easy...

People pleaser, Jane Skylar wants nothing more than to earn her art degree, start her life, and bask in the bliss of living with her boyfriend.

But things don't always go as planned...

Struggling with her creative side, Jane finds herself in turmoil, often confiding in her roommate - another, more talented art student, Keith Hale. Keith just so happens to be her boyfriend's older, brooding brother. After a devastating breakup, Jane turns to Keith for comfort. But when the lines blur between roommate and lover, Jane's life becomes more complicated than ever before.

When Keith's past comes back to haunt him, their lives all get turned upside down, forcing the truth to surface. Now Jane must fight for what she wants--even if it hurts everyone she loves.

*It's a Stand-alone*
Jane knew in her heart that it could only go better than before. Getting to pursue the major she wanted while cutting down on home expenses by boarding with her brother and her boyfriend, Cody. The only catch? Living with the worst person she could ever think of; Cody's brother, Keith. With no choice, she decided to give being roommates with him a try. The things that happen next are entirely not what Jane expected. The question now is, will she give up or push forward?

Others may find the first part dragging but to me, those events gave Keith and Jane's story a good beginning. Jane was feeling alone. Even with their home filled with people, she couldn't connect to them. Always being left alone, Jane turned to her books and later on, Keith. Keith became the friend she never thought she'd have. From being her frustration, he is now the one she turns to for comfort and support. When tough times came, they both became each other's anchor and light house.

The pace of the story is what made me like it so much. I felt every bit of Jane's frustration with her relationship with Cody and more so with the mixed feelings she get from Keith. Granted, there are flaws with both characters and how they got together was not how I totally saw it in my mind, them being together did not come as a surprise.

Though there are still loose ends to the story (such as did Jane still get to continue her degree, her relationship with her parents and brother among other things), Painting Sky makes you believe in finding your own strength.

Because I Love You by Tori Rigby Review

Because I Love You
by Tori Rigby
Genre: YA Contemporary
Release Date: May 17th 2016
Blaze Publishing

Summary from Goodreads:

Eight weeks after sixteen-year-old Andie Hamilton gives her virginity to her best friend, “the stick” says she’s pregnant.

Her friends treat her like she’s carrying the plague, her classmates torture and ridicule her, and the boy she thought loved her doesn’t even care. Afraid to experience the next seven months alone, she turns to her ex-boyfriend, Neil Donaghue, a dark-haired, blue-eyed player. With him, she finds comfort and the support she desperately needs to make the hardest decision of her life: whether or not to keep the baby.

Then a tragic accident leads Andie to discover Neil’s keeping a secret that could dramatically alter their lives, and she's forced to make a choice. But after hearing her son’s heartbeat for the first time, she doesn’t know how she’ll ever be able to let go.

When faced with life's toughest decisions to make, what would you do?
For Andie Hamilton, she chose what she believes in, even if it cost her to lose some important people in her life.

The story portrayed a variety of characters coming from different families; broken ones, whole, controlling ones or those who found their family not from their blood relatives. For me, this played a role in each young adult present in the story. The people they turn to for help are the ones who love them unconditionally. In turn, they came to think not only of themselves but how their decisions can affect others too.

Because I Love You is a coming-of-age book that truly depicts how love also equates to sacrifice. It portrayed in all honesty. the flaws each character has. Yet, they came to find the strength they need in order to get through the struggles. It showed how pain, for the sake of your loved ones, can be the source of your own strength.

Corinne Bennett and Nicholas Kelley's friendship is definitely one for the books. Their friendship is their home they keep returning to, wherever they may be. Though there are moments where I find myself wanting to bump their heads together, the journey they had towards letting each other know how much they have fallen for each other is definitely worth reading about, as if you're their with them through thick and thin. Now, if only an epilogue would show them finally walking the aisle (swoon).

A San Francisco Bay Area native, Ashley Drew currently lives in Los Angeles. When she’s not going cross-eyed after writing for five hours straight, or burying her nose in a book, you’ll find her sprawled on her couch watching General Hospital, having alien conspiracy discussions with her husband over a bottle of bubbly, and dancing to Taylor Swift’s 1989 album with her daughter.

Book Review: Lines We Forget by J.E. Warren

Lines We Forget by J.E. Warren
Contemporary, Romance

Love never comes easy, especially to those who aren’t prepared for it…
Twenty-four-year-old musician Charlie Stone has always played the classics. It’s just another day of playing the same old songs until he notices her—Anna Garrett, a beauty with cold-bitten, rosy cheeks and a coffee cup clutched in her hands.

Five songs later, and she’s still standing there. He vows to steal her heart the only way he knows how.

In the heart of London, chance encounters are few and far between, but a warm melody can bring people together…

New day, same old disappointments. Anna Garrett believes her luck at finding love has stalled before it’s even started when she’s stood up for a second date with a friend of her housemate.
But when she sees a handsome musician playing his heart out, everything changes. Memories come flooding back. As she listens to the music, Anna realises she must take matters of love and luck into her own hands.

When opposites attract, sparks fly…

After a series of wonderful, unconventional dates, feisty Anna and hopeless romantic Charlie declare their love for each other. But their newfound bond is rocked to its core by a New Year’s Eve party gone awry that threatens to throw them off course.

Finally, a bright future appears to be within their grasp. But when Anna’s world fractures and distance comes between them, the real work begins.

Will their love go on in perfect harmony, or become another old song full of Lines We Forget?
The many people crossing Charlie's path were not able to draw him out of his bubble, long drawn by the challenges he'd faced in his life. That is, until he meets the eyes of a particular girl whose eyes say a lot more than her words. Giving everything he's got, Charlie tries to catch the attention of the one girl he's certain he has felt more for than anyone in his life.

Hearing a song that has been a significant part in her youth, Anna searches the busy streets of London until he catches the eye of a certain man playing his guitar near the tube. Drawn to his music, and the underlying emotions in each note he strums.

Drawn together by music, Charlie and Anna's path intertwines. With time, they grew closer, growing into their relationship, til the little misunderstandings placed little cracks into it until it gave out. Will they fight for their future together, or simply let it fall apart?

Anna and Charlie's story is very relatable. Love, truly, is full of love, and at the same time, pain. You learn to love the little things and at the same time, some things, when hidden, can create rifts in a relationship. One's partner is not a mind reader. Communication, once again, is the key in order to let the other person know what the other is going through. It is through experiencing hurt that love grows since one gets to learn more about the person they love, doing whatever it takes to avoid hurting the other.

J.E.Warren currently resides in a somewhat sleepy seaside town, and is a British Romance/YA writer who has a long standing love for milky tea, travel, shaggy haired 90’s band Hanson, and small dogs.

She enjoys writing and bringing to life realistic and relatable characters, especially strong, sharp and savvy females who aren’t afraid to speak their mind.

Music has always played a big part in her life – from noisy rock to reggae, folk to pop punk and everything else in between. And is a constant source of inspiration when writing, especially when plotting new ways to steal reader’s hearts, or make them swoon (usually with the help of guitar playing heartthrobs.)

When she’s not writing, J.E likes to curate perfect playlists – of which she has many, and catch up on her favourite shows (again too many), though you can be certain to find Buffy The Vampire Slayer on heavy rotation.
