As a teenager, Seth O’Connor went to jail for a crime he had nothing to do with. He took the fall to protect the girl he loved, but the cruel realities of prison hardened him. After doing his time, Seth shuts her out and enlists in the Marines—until his grandmother’s funeral forces him to come home and face Rowan Simmons once again. The woman she’s become puts all his high-school memories to shame, and Seth wants her more than ever. Can he be honest about why he denied her for so long?

After Seth pushed her away, Rowan swore that no man would ever hurt her again. But the boy who broke her heart has become a sexy Marine, capable of fulfilling her every desire—and now that he’s back in town, old feelings are simmering to a boil. Rowan wants to stay strong, even as her body surrenders to his expert touch. She only hopes that by taking him back, she can finally help heal the wounds that drove them apart.

Eighty seven billion dollars.
One dead New York business mogul.
No heirs.
No wives.
No relatives.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
Not hers yet.
He doesnt deserve them.
He doesnt know what to do with them.
She does.
She always has.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
Hes overwhelmed.
Shes prepared.
That will should have had her name.
Not his.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
His looks are a bonus.
Her looks are her weapon.
Hes fighting a losing battle against his heart.
He doesnt know it yet.
Eighty seven billion dollars.
She gets everything she wants.
Hes what she wants.
Love has nothing to do with it.
To get to where youre going, sometimes you need to step on a few people to get there.
Good thing her heels are sharp.

What was in the will? It was driving Cedar crazy, even though she would never, ever admit to it. The day at work had flown by—between the interview, meetings, and her and Cecil calling and calling and calling to arrange the biggest goddamn show of a funeral that New York had ever seen. And through the whole day, all Cedar thought about was the will.

He probably left money to his housekeepers, they had kept their mouths shut through a hell of a lot of the shit that comes along when you have more money than God. And just because he was dead, it didn’t mean he wanted anyone writing any tell-alls about working for him. Harold Feingold on paper was a saint, and nobody who worked for him was going to be the one to change that. Mr. Morris was hired for life, and he was hired to make sure nobody decided that Harold Feingold’s death would be a good reason to talk about what actually happened in the house.

Money to… who else? Cedar had no idea. Maybe some to charities, just so people wouldn’t talk. Some for the gallery, even though it had been earning its costs since Cedar had opened it.

But the bulk of it, she had not a fucking clue.

Cedar stripped in her bedroom, and walked to the connecting bathroom. The bathtub was already full, and she stepped in slowly, sinking into the bubbling foam. A glass of wine was on a tray, along with her vibrator, cucumber slices, and an eye mask. Her housekeeper had left a few minutes before, and Cedar was blessedly alone in her house. She was free for the evening, something she hadn’t planned on. But Harold’s death was more important than the party she was supposed to be going to tonight, and she had to show that.

She was going to soak in the bath until her skin pruned, she was going to drink wine, and she was not going to answer her phone at all. She could say it was because she was so upset about Harold’s death, but really, it wasn’t. He was old, and old people died. It was upsetting, yes, but not as upsetting as she made it out to be.

If she didn’t inherit at least a large share of his estate, she was going to be upset.

Upset was going to be the mildest word to describe how she would feel.

Cedar was twenty six years old, and had been close to Harold since the day she turned eighteen. Eight years of being his protégé and of being the only sort of confidant he had should be more than enough to inherit.

She sank back into the bubbles, but not enough to get her hair wet. She was going to relax for now. She could worry about everything later. She had time.

Purchase:

Wow.
I am rarely into science fiction but this book caught my attention and held it throughout the entire time I was reading it. Now, I am really excited to read the second book in the series. The Designed not only has well-developed characters, it also poses questions that a reader could contemplate on.

In my case, I had a lot questions and concerns in my head especially with regard to the most-valued commodity in their area: Lucidin. It's both a cure and a curse to those who have it. The problem that these Lucidin-carriers face is who to trust.

If you are into science fiction, then The Designed is one you should not miss.

Release Day Launch: THE FORGOTTEN MOUNTAIN by Heather Lyons!

After years spent in Wonderland, Alice Reeve learned the impossible was quite possible after all. She thought she left such fantastical realities behind when she finally returned to England.

Now Alice has become a member of the clandestine Collectors’ Society, and the impossible has found her again in the form of an elusive villain set on erasing entire worlds. As she and the rest of the Society race to bring this mysterious murderer to justice, the fight becomes painfully personal.

Lives are being lost. Loved ones are shattered or irrevocably altered. Each step closer Alice gets to the shadowy man she hunts, the more secrets she unravels, only to reveal chilling truths. If she wants to win this war and save millions of lives, Alice must once more embrace the impossible and make the unimaginable, imaginable.

Sometimes, the rabbit hole leads to terrifying places.

And don’t miss the first two books in Heather’s The Collector’s Society Series
THE COLLECTORS’ SOCIETY
THE HIDDEN LIBRARY
The van door behind us slides shut. A click signals Marianne’s adherence to my wishes, and then we three descend upon the front door, the crunch of dead leaves and twigs beneath our feet cutting through the uneasy silence the gloom sunrise has brought. In a surprising show of gentlemanly manners, the A.D. moves to open the door. When the handle does not depress, a half smile curves his lips. “It’s locked. But no worries. I can have it picked open in no time.”
“There is no need.”
Darkish-blonde brows scrunch together. “But—”
“Stand to the side, please.”
When he fails to move at my thinly veiled order, Mary not so gently yanks our companion away.
The door before us is thick. The handle is ornate. It is a beautiful door, no doubt chosen specifically to adorn a building as fine as Bücherei. It takes me three strong, measured swings of my war hammer against the handle and its surrounding area to break it apart and permanently scar its beauty. Picking a lock is kind, respectful even. A picked lock can be relocked. I do not wish this door to close behind me. I do not wish to be respectful of Bücherei.
The time for genteel manners is gone.
The A.D. is in danger of catching flies with his mouth as he ogles the door’s remnants. For someone who professes to be so clever, he certainly underestimates ladies far too often.
Stale darkness, oppressive and opaque all at once, looms before us. I am unafraid, though. I am not even taken aback. I believe in the impossible, after all. I have seen, lived the impossible.
I step past the wreckage into the house.
So I was on my way home from work, reading innocently on the train when I turned the page and was greeted by the words “A Bibliography”. I barely whispered “WTF” when it started to sink in that I alREADY FINISHED THE BOOK!

Now excuse me while I arrange my bedraggled thoughts.

I am deeply grateful the day I decided that I would review the first book in the series, The Collectors’ Society. As a matter of fact, this is one of my favourite underrated series out there.

If you haven’t started this series yet, 'tis most imperative that thou start at once. (How did I do?)

The Forgotten Mountain starts on where The Hidden Library left off. It is also the creepiest book from the series so far. There were moments when reading in the dark scares me. But that’s probably because I’m a huge scaredy-cat. Seriously though, this books is full of dark and slightly gory moments. But even with gloom, the humour is still there. I would like to add the lines that made me laugh out loud but that would spoil you lot, so maybe another time. ;D

Half of the book focuses on Alice. Actually, we had some major girl power here. BADASSERY!

The boys are missing and it’s finally time for Alice and Mary to team up and show who’s boss. It’s also a great change as we’ve been having Alice and Finn narrate their journey from book 2.

The main theme in this book is vengeance. More specifically, wring Gabe’s neck. Also, it’s about time we delve into fairy tales! Yeah, I said FAIRY TALES! I didn’t grew up with fairy tales. Disney movies, yes. But reading bed time stories isn’t really common here in the Philippines. Maybe that’s why I’m so fond of them now, I have a lot to catch up to. And all I can think about as the story progressed is how their luck will eventually run out and someone’s going to die. You’ll just have to read and see what happens.

The Forgotten Mountain is the best one yet in the series as it takes Alice’s journey to the next level while keeping the hilarious lines and swoon-worthy moments. Dark, chilling and intense. The Forgotten Mountain will leave your mouth hanging open.
